Chippers are built into all motherboards. They basically determine what generation processor it will accept, and also the speed and type of other hardware you can plug in, to give you a very simplified amswer.

This particular board supports LGA1200 socket, the optimum product for this socket being the 11th Gen i9 processor. The 12th gen is not supported because it's a different style. (I believe it's LGA 1600)
