• When you say sync do you mean stereo pairing or speaker grouping? You can do speaker grouping but not stereo pairing. A 1st gen and 2nd gen will work in the same house without issue.

• I've tried that before and they keep disconnecting. I paid two 2nd gen and now they work perfectly.
