Yes - the basis of this product is that is has built-in powerline wiring technology to communicate with the DST adapter - which would be one of the only ways to get signal into a tough spot without running more cables.

Perhaps if you put the DST adapter on the same electrical circuit as the router is plugged into, but where I wanted to extend the wifi range the outlet was on a different circuit. I returned it because that was the reason I bought it.
