You can plug this into your current router. This can then become a "bridge" unit and the wireless remote satellite extends the range - they come as a kit - base and satellite. I found my existing router WIFI was slow, and rather than upgrade through the Verizon people, I just plugged this into my existing router I have as part of my package....wired speed from Verizon router is good, but WIFI speeds aren't great - this solves the problem. Great unit, not disappointing at all.

We recommend having separate network info (SSIDs, etc), however, to reduce interference and to allow you to know which network to which you’re connected.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It can replace an existing router but not a modem. You must have a cable or DSL modem to connect Orbi to.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will probably replace your current router. You can set the Orbi Router to work as an Access Point, which you then attach to your existing router with an Ethernet cable. In this mode, the Orbi Router (now access point) still communicates like normal to its satellite. In this scenario, I would suggest turning off the Wi-Fi completely on your current router and let Orbi handle that.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It can. The "router" unit is a full router. If you do not wish to replace your router it can be used in access point mode.

They will of course give you push back, but what "good salesperson" wouldn't. It brings in extra revenue for the company. I used to live with my parents and we had FIOS and they told us we had to use their FIOS router and then use our Orbi as a bridge router. Although that solution worked, we had to pay an extra monthly fee for possessing the FIOS router or choose to buy it. When I moved to my new townhouse and requested new FIOS service I told them that I had previously bought a FIOS router and then they stopped trying to sell me one and then when the installer got to my house, they installed a little box into my laundry room and then the ethernet cable directly into the Orbi mesh router. I knew this was possible bc I didn't understand the logic behind renting a router from Verizon only to go onto their website to turn off the wifi so it didn't interfere with the Orbi's signal. That made me wonder a bit and common sense told me I didn't need the FIOS router and I was correct. I pay for 200/200mbps for $39.99/month and I always get above 300mbps wifi speeds and I've never had internet issues. The installer's aren't going to argue with you bc they get paid by the amount of jobs they successfully complete so they don't have any interest in upselling you a useless FIOS router. Buy the Orbi, get FIOS and you'll be glad you did. 100% stand behind Orbi's! side note: I don't know if this will work with xfinity bc they use a different technology but if they use an ethernet cable then odds are that you can. Good Luck!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This product worked seamlessly with my router, so it should work with yours.

When I moved into my 1780sq ft townhouse we had to setup a new service plan with Verizon Fios bc that's what my family were using when we were living at my parents house. I was using the Orbi kit with the small plug in wifi router and it worked fine. For some reason, at my parents house, we had a FIOS router and then an Orbi Router that was used as a bridge. We ended up having to buy the FIOS router, and then the Orbi router and we had two wifi names but we only used the Orbi one bc it was giving us an additional 100+mbps more than what we were paying for and the Orbi Routers were great. When I bought this new house, I sold my old Orbi router and I decided to tell Verizon that I wanted to use my own router. They came over, installed the FIOS box and then had an ethernet cable from the box to my Orbi router and it had never lost connectivity and I only had to use one wifi name. You could do both if you're using FIOS but if you're using DSL or Cable then I don't think you can use these routers by themselves. I have the main router in the basement and the satellite router in the master bedroom and I only pay for 200/200mbps for $39.99 and I consistently clock over 300mbps. The satellite router also has ethernet ports in the back that the Orbi router with the wall plug in did not have and I needed my work computer to be connected via ethernet at all time bc I'm a HBW now. I told my company I'm using an ethernet connection to my computer which is true but my satellite is connected to the base station via wifi. small detail that I left out but they never asked and I've never had any problems. Good Luck!
