Hi Zach, you can theoretically mount the dash camera wherever you would like. Without knowing what state, you live in and the local laws there, if you have laws against dash cameras on the windshield in general, I am not sure the location of the dash camera will make a difference should you get pulled over and asked about it. It might be worthwhile to ask your local law enforcement if the camera behind the rear view will be considered against the law.
