WiFi is help full if u want to view on your cell phone or tablet.but yes u do need internet.YOU CAN OPERATE TO VIEW ON SCREEN AT HOME ONLY W ITH OUT WIFI.

No. It uses a lan cable to connect to the internet if you are wanting to use the remote app. Else the controls are done with an included mouse.

The Night Owl system does not require a Wi-Fi connection to operate. The only time you will require an internet connection is if you would like to view your Night Owl cameras remotely from your smartphone, computer or tablet. Otherwise, you will not require a Wi-Fi connection. Please bare in mind that the DVR is only compatible with a wired internet connection. Thank you for choosing Night Owl.
