No, the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Telephoto Zoom Lens will not work on the Nikon D5100. The AF-P type lenses use a new type of electromagnetic focusing system that the D5100 cannot communicate with. The D5100 will be compatible with AF-S type lenses. We would recommend looking into the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Telephoto Zoom Lens. Though it may be more expensive, this lens would be perfect for landscapes and wildlife. You will be able to use this lens to get amazing wild angle shots as well as zoom in to capture up close images of various wild life.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Per Nikon's web site, this lens is NOT compatible with the D5100. This is probably due to the electronic diaphragm. There is a DX lens with the same focal length range that would work.
