Q: QuestionWould this be a good lens to replace the 18-55 kit lens? I'm looking for a lens with a bigger zoom but not too big as far as a distance of 200mm.

• A:Answer The 105mm range of this lens is best suited for portrait type shooting in close proximity or in a studio setting. Not well suited for zoom shots like sports or nature.

• A:Answer AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105 is an excellent lens for your D3200. It is a nice lens to use on the camera because of it's versatile focal length. In addition, because it is an AF-S type of lens, it has Nikon's Silent Wave Autofocus Motor built in to the lens. Your D3200 requires lenses of this type in order to take advantage of autofocus.

Q: QuestionNeed extra sharp close ups - will this work?I have a D70 and need to take facial close ups (hair view) for aesthetic clinic. Will this get that close and clear?

• A:Answer The D70 is a great quality camera overall and if you've noticed, it has a 'Macro' mode selection on the Mode dial. You didn't say what lens you were using, but if you have a decent Nikon kit lens like a 18-55, you can get some very good, sharp close0-ups with it.. Try different exposures like 200 ISO; F5-F6; good side lighting from a daylight type source or lamp. Use a tripod if possible which will give you the sharpest pictures. On a tripod, you can set up several feet away and zoom in for the close ups. Use a good photo editor like PhotoScape or Picasa to post process unless you have something better and know how to use it. • A:Answer Any Nikon lens without an internal focus motor will not auto focus on the D40 body, which itself has no internal focusing mechanism. Any such recent or decade old lens can be manually focused on the D40.

Q: QuestionWhat are the f-stops as the zoom progresses? Meaning 18mm is f3.5, 50mm is f_._ and so and so forth.

• A:Answer Thats right @ 18mm f3.5 is your largest aperature. Your aperature gradually gets narrow thruout the focal length. Sorry if it sounds confusing, all you need to know is that the smaller the f # the more light is going to hit the film. That is why a 50mm f/1.4 is going to cost more than a 18.105 f/3.5-5.6. Learn to take pictures with a good normal lens first, you'll thank me later.
