Yes! It will work fine on your D3100. Note that, as a FX lens, it will continue to work fine if you move up to a FX Nikon camera in the future. Bear in mind that on your D3100, DX {APS-c] Nikon camera, the lens will be equivalent to a 36mm focal length lens. In general terms, that suggests photojournalist use as well as some landscape, but not really wide. So, bear in mind what kind of photos you want to shoot, in deciding whether this is the lens for you at this time. I have both DX and FX Nikon cameras, and use this lens on both, although I prefer it on my FX Nikon. To go really wide on my DX Nikon camera, I prefer my older DX 12-24mm Nikon Zoom lens, although it is only F4 in aperture and so not as good for shooting in low light as this f1.8 lens. [I love shooting in low light. There now are also other choices in wide zoom Nikon lenses, as well as the similar (but wider) Nikon 20mm f1.8 lens.]

This amazing, wide-angle prime lens has a fast 1.8 aperture that allows you to create stunning bokeh portraits, as well as food, jewelry, landscapes, skyscrapers and interiors that have a dramatic wide perspective.
