This lens works great with the d3500, and works great in Auto Focus mode (AFS and AFC). The d3500 is not at its best shooting video with any lens but will thrive using this lens if it's being used for photography. If you are looking to shoot video, you will be disappointed will all Nikon cameras. Only the new Z series from Nikon have made shooting video exciting again, like the z6 and z7.
