It is recommended to use LR6/L40 AA Alkaline Batteries, FR6/L91 AA Lithium Batteries or Four EN-MH2 Rechargeable Ni-HM Batteries with the Nikon Coolpix B500.

I always brought 2 spare sets of batteries with me, not including the set in the camera. Zooming eats up the batteries, using the flash for every picture also eats up the batteries very quickly. Use the flash only when necessary, and don't zoom back and forth for every picture. Always keep at least 1 spare set of batteries with you.
