Both the SB500 and the SB700 are excellent options for you to consider. Both flashes use Nikon's i-TTL technology, using readings from the camera to automatically adjust the output of the flash for the optimum exposure. In addition, both flash units can be take advantage of the D5500's COMMANDER MODE and can be operated wirelessly, off the camera. The SB500 has the advantage of also being able to be used as an LED Video Light source. When you need extra light while filming FULL HD video from the camera, you can use the SB500 as an added light source!
