• Yes. Don't use the grill without the grease catcher pan in place.

• There is a tray that the grill plate sets on which catches all the grease. To clean I wait until grill has completely cooled, dump excess grease int the trash bin, using a paper towel, and then just wash with hot soapy water. The heating element is at the top of the grill so haven't had any baked on grease issues. This grill is really easy to clean using a nylon brush with hot soapy water. It does take a long time for the grill to cool before you can clean it.
