You have to claim it from the Nintendo store. It will give you a code to type in for the free download. You do not need a constant WIFI but will need it to download the game.

It comes with the Mario kart 8 game and a free month trial to play online. Both are paper scratch off’s with the code on it. I believe you only need WiFi if you are playing multiplayer or other people online & you need WiFi when you first set up your switch or want to buy something on the Nintendo store. But overall you don’t need WiFi to play your games.
