You do not need smartphone. Screen will show you reading and you can write down and keep a manual record.

The device will work independently of a phone. Nice to have to store readings though.

No you do not. It works great with out one. I am not using one.

No. No smart phone is required but you will not be able to record or view your past blood pressure readings.

No. You would have to log your numbers manually. The device also does not allow you to browse previous readings.
