Yes, it should. I have mine configured as a 5.1.2 in the living room, and zone 2 powers a set of outdoor stereo speakers. You can mirror the output to both zones, or use each independently with different input sources. You cannot, however, utilize any hdmi input for sending an hdmi source to all 9 channels. You have to use the "net" input options (all the popular music streaming apps) OR an analong input (I believe). For instance, I cannot send amazon music streaming from my TV to both zones since I have it connected via hdmi/arc. But If I use amazon music running on the onkyo receiver, you can send it to all 9 channels, or each zone inpendently. Hope this makes sense, its one a lot of us get stuck on...
