No the filter is the ceramic beads that are attached to the lid and that's permanent... Every time you unscrew the lid and take it off your actually removing the filter. The manual comes with thorough instructions on cleaning and everything, but you basically put some water in the tank and just a small amount of bleach and let it soak for 20-25 minutes swishing it around several times then rince really good. And that's how you clean the filter + tank. And then just wipe the base with cleaning wipes. And I personally only like to use distilled water when it's in use. I hope this info helps!
