The Defender series provides a higher level of protection than the Commuter series. If fact, the Defender series provides better protection than just about any other case you can find. However, this extra protection comes at a cost; the Defender series adds a notable amount of bulk to the phone, whereas the Commuter series is lower-profile and will be easier to put in and take out of your pocket, purse, etc. The Defender series is really geared toward those who work in construction or heavy industry. For the majority of people (those working in office, commercial, or light industry environments), the Commuter will be the more practical choice.

Both provide good additional protection, but not for the touchscreens. Plastic overlays are available for that, but I don't recommend you bother. A direct impact by a pointed object on the face of the phone will break the screen, regardless, and Gorilla glass screens do a great job of fending off minor scratches and scuffs. Your mileage may vary, depending on how carefully the phone(s) are handled. Her phone lives in her purse when it's out of her hand, so the trimmest hard case we can find is adequate for how she works with it and did he hand well. I wear mine exposed on my belt all day and need quick access even in 'rugged' conditions, so the Defender with the included holster is a necessity. The phone stores in the holster with the face covered; the protection *is* there but the screen is not usable. By the way the phone can be placed in the holster with the screen outward and the holster clip configured as a stand, so it becomes a great holder for video calls and watching clips. So, think about how the phone will be carried, and how & where it will be used. Choose appropriately, and remember you get what you pay for... I've used nothing but OtterBox cases for over a decade, and in fact did not bother initializing and porting data to our new phones until they were properly cased. Hope this helps...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use a tempered glass with the defender case.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Commuter is lighter and more compact.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Defender is the best protection. The Commuter is good if you’re not dropping it a lot over the course of a day. I walk dogs, mine goes flying out of my hand several times a day.
