Does this case protect the camera as well? null

There is a bevel on the case that surrounds the camera lens area so that when you set the phone down the camera isn't making surface contact. However there is no cover on the camera area itself, that part is open on the case.

Sort of... It protects the camera by being "taller" than the lenses that stick out. So, if you lay the phone down on a flat surface, the camera lenses do not touch that flat surface. There is nothing physically covering the lenses, so it is possible an object could come into direct contact with it. However, the glass Apple uses for the camera is extremely hard to scratch.
