Duracell batteries start out slightly higher in voltage than these, but... quickly drop below. So for most of their life they are better than an alkaline battery. For most of its life an Eneloop is at 1.2 volts. For most of its life a Duracell or other alkaline is below 1.2 volts. Most devices cut off at about .9 or .8 volts.
