• Hi! The average lifespan of a rechargeable Ni-MH battery is approximately 3 years after its first charging. However, the batteries should be replaced as soon as you notice that the phone will not hold a charge. - G

• The batts are kept fully charged when the hand set is in the cradle. We've just had them for about a month, so can't answer any long term questions, but the set we replaced lasted for over 5 yrs and the batts were still fully functional when we updated. So would expect the same from this set.
