Yes, you will have to purchase the Smart Hub to operate your lights with the Hue App or Alexa. Unfortunately, the Echo Show 5 does not have a Zigbee smart home hub built in. However, if you have an Echo Plus or regular Echo Show, you can use their built in hubs to operate the lights.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, buy the hub. It supports unlimited Hue compatible devices like bulbs, outlet switches, thermostat, etc. It works great. I have set it up in zones. For example, 2 front porch light are a zone and both torn on and off simultaneously and dim them also. Ceiling fan has 3 bulbs and named such as a zone so all bulbs come on, dim and turn off simultaneously. Have 2 colored bulbs in living room as zone and colors slowly change in-sync. Nice warm effect. Love them!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you’re trying to operate the bulbs, if you have the Amazon Alexa app installed on your smart device it should recognize them. Otherwise, be sure to install the Phillips Hue app to manage them. You won’t need the Phillips Hub (as far as I’m aware) if you have an Echo Show. Again, check to Alexa app to confirm it recognizes your bulbs.
