- Answer You have to manually push the buttons to start to record. Sound quality is not very sensitive so best if talking close to the speakers with limited background noise

- Answer The duel microphones are pretty sensitive. IMO I would say yes, but I have no idea of your situation's decibel level. The ceiling/floor running would be in a lower frequency range. These lower sounds easily penetrate floors and ceilings. Example: you only hear the bass from enclosed boombox car stereos. The higher freqs can't penetrate much of the car. So, I think the unit may do the job especially if you put it close to the ceiling.

- Answer It is considered an invasion of privacy, hence why a lot of phone calls will mention that your call maybe recorded. Anything recorded in an illegal matter can't be held in a court of law. Keep in mind, I don't really know law, I just watch TV drama. At the end of the day, it's still bad to invade someone's privacy like that.

- Answer it is almost impossible to get ahold of Phillips...their dvt1300 is to me a piece of junk...no instructions worth reading and the yu tube was in german. got ahold of Phillips via phone after an hours waiting and go to this site and she disconnected us .....no more Phillips products for me.

QuestionI need to record rehearsals of a small group (12 people) of singers. What external microphone is compatible with the dvt1300? Recordings with the internal microphone are very distorted and unpleasant, especially in the higher voice range. Thank you.

- Answer There is a button on the left side of the voice tracer device model #DVT1300, you press and hold until it comes on. You also turn it off the same way.

- Answer I have not tested the recorder for business meetings - but it worked very well with some interviews (2-3 peoples). It also has a small table stand which is very handy. I have seen that Philips also offers a recorder with a special meeting microphone - may check this one (DVT8000).
