If you have the Yellow, red & white rca connectors on your DVR yes but HD Dazzle and a computer with a external drive by the dvr will work this is necessary and you will only get a Standard quality like that of a vcr. This is true with all of these devices the only other way I know to get real HD quality is to install a HD capture card into a computer or if you've got cable purchase the 3 tuner silicon dust Home and with a all wired not wire-less router you can record full seasons on the HD channels then use a video-editing software such as Cyberlink's Power Director to more accurately remove the commercials I own a HD DAZZLE I like it for vcr taped but don't use the Dazzle's software to edit or burn because Dazzle will only omit things at the beginning or end not in between. If you don't mind the lower standard screen quality and the possibility of black bar's on the top and bottom this occurred with charter using a wire-less receiver transmitter and by trying direct cables I like my Dazzle for the home movies I have on VCR Taped I burned 30 2 hour tapes to BLU_RAY disc's with no black bars on the sides I set the software capture it comes with to 16:9 before every tape and worked flawless for the capturing I rated it with 4 stars reason is the lack of multiple trimming.

Please try again later.IF your dvr has audio and video composite outputs [yellow ,red and white],or s-video out in place of yellow rca cable, the answer is yes with one exception ,this will only digitize to your computers system main hard drive.then once you burn the dvd you will have vob files you can transfer to a external hard drive [with dvd in dvd drive go to my computer an click on dvd icon on drive disc is in and right click then click open and click on video ts files and all files open and depending on tour windows version copy to external hard drive ,another way to do it is to run canles to vcr if you still have one ,digitize that way and burn to dvd and then to hard drive. The cables would go in the vcr's line in recording, you would need a audio Y splitter because line in on both only have 1 input.on best buy web site Ihave step by step instructions on reviews which will help

The Dazzle isn't HD at all, I'm not sure why they put HD in the name, it can only capture 480p or 960i. Your DVR would also have to have regular Composite outputs on the back, which it might not even have. You didn't post the model number of your DVR, but you might want to look into something like this http://www.apricorn.com/product-support/dvr-expansion/apricorn-dvr-expander-for-directv.html which will just give you more storage as long as the model is compatible. Amazon has a bunch of options there, up to 4TB of extra storage, that's a lot of shows! You could even try to get a regular USB hard drive, plug it in and see what happens.
