An open box is the same as a new one, the 3 yr manufacturer warranty begins once purchased, and I recommend the geek squad total tech plan gives an exclusive 2 yr replacement or repair if defective. I just had my LX305 replaced after the 2 mos. return period policy, also total tech extends the return period to 2 months if not satisfied with the product. I've upgraded within this 2 mo return period under this policy. I purchased a Sony soundbar open box with substantial savings and it was a great bargain. Geek Squad stands behind the products they sell.
