Dolby atmos is like the new around sound, it's been called as artificial full 3d sound because sound comes from all directions, artificially; you should YouTube a vid to see how they do it. Regarding the subscriton, no, it does not require a subscription. The code is to download an "APP" from the xbox store so the headphones work properly, it's like the software for the headphones to do their job right. So no, you don't have to pay monthly or anything, just use the code in the xbox store to download that app and you should be good to go. Hope I was able to help!

They have 128 different locations they can place the objects including above and below you. There is an app in the Xbox App Store for Dolby. To enable Atmos on headphones that support it, there is a $15 fee to purchase that option. With the Plantronics headphones, they give you an activation code so you don’t have to pay that fee.

A license key to enable ATMOS feature set on the headset is provided as part of the 800 LX SE package bundle. There is also a 30 day free trial that Dolby provides, so you can test ATMOS before commiting the key to the headset. I would suggest you use the free trial to test the headset as needed, and if needed return the headset if you don't like the ATMOS feature. ATMOS feature is a big element to this specific headset.

You do need to activate it either on windows 10 or Xbox one (normally $15) , but these come with a free code, and it's a one time activations. So once you have it, you're good to go and no subscription fee
