USB 3.0 is much faster. The card reader can use both 3.0 and 2.0 ports if you have 3.0 version port on your computer. If you only have 2.0 version USB port on your computer the 3.0 version card reader will still work, it will just not be able to take advantage of the faster download speeds.

You would only be able to take advantage of the USB 3.0 faster speeds the computer that you connect into is also USB 3.0 capable. If the computer is only USB 2.0, you will only be able to get USB 2.0 speeds out of the card reader.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the same question. I believe 3.0 is the newer version. I went adhead and bought two different adapters. Best buy sells and adapter that has both usb 2 and 3 but I do not remember the name of it.
