The main difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 is speed. USB 2.0 has a max speed of 480Mbps (Mega bits per second,) which converts to 60MBps (Mega Bytes per second.) Mbps vs MBps: MBps number will always be 8x smaller than the Mbps number. USB 3.0 has a much higher max speed of 5Gbps (Giga bits per second, ie 1024Mbps) which translates to 640MBps. 640MBps vs 60MBps, hence why USB 3.0 is advertised as 10x faster than USB 2.0. In order for you to reach those faster speeds, you need a computer with USB 3.0 ports on them, usually blue internal color instead of the standard black... Note the color of the port on the USB 3.0 card recommended.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As others have commented, USB 3.0 is vastly superior to USB 2.0. Remember this when buying charge/data cables for you cell phones. Many sellers of the cables incorrectly label their 2.0 cables as 3.0, 3.1 or even 3.2. All 3.0 and higher cables use 9 wires to transmit data and power, vs only 4 wires for 2.0. If you want to transfer text, photos or music between your 3.0 or higher cell phone and your 3.0 or higher computer, you really do need a 3.0 or higher USB cable. It will make the process so much faster, as much as 10 times faster! Take the time when you're buying USB cables to find out exactly what you're buying. And remember that the wire is the primary determinant as to whether a USB cable is a 2.0, 3.0 or higher: 9 wires for a USB 3. Always!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.USB 3.0 is 5 times faster than the USB 2.0, which means if you have a lot of big files, it will cut the transfer speed signaficantly. But your computer needs to also support USB 3.0 to achieve that speed, so if you own an old computer, it makes no difference.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just a difference in speed for putting items on or off the drive. You have to have a USB 3.0 slot on your computer to take advantage of this feature however. The USB port is usually blue on you computer if you have it. It will still work with other USB slots as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From limited experience on my part, I would say the speed of the backup is the only difference and that's not a deal breaker.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You will only see the difference if your computer has a 3.0 port and even then, if you are transferring from a spinning hard drive compared to an SSD, you would not notice a large increase in speed. Size of the files will also determine the transfer speed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes there is a major difference between the two standards. 3.0 is much faster and the wait time of the data transfer will be much quicker compared to 2.0. For instance on the 3.0 a GB of data will transfer in a couple of minutes versus 2.0 transfer of at least 15 min. However, speed of the thumb drive is dependent on the USB in your computer! If your computer has 2.0 than data will only transfer at 2.0 even if you have 3.0 technology, just keep that in mind.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, there's a difference between USB 2.0 & 3.0! I have both kinds of them here and would advise the following: USB 2.0 is the most universally compatible and available. USB 3.0 is relatively new, so it will be a few more years until you get that same level of availability. The upshot is that USB 3.0 is much faster than 2.0! I have found that in my case, the 2 different types of USB are NOT interchangeable! My 3.0 doesn't work in my 2.0 ports and vice versa. There are good articles on Tom's Hardware and CNet on this.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.USB 3.0 provides better speed and more efficient power management than USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices; however, data transfer speeds are limited to USB 2.0 levels when these devices inter-operate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.3.0 will be faster when transferring the files to or from the drive. 3.0 is also backwards compatible with 2.0 so if your device won't recognise 3.0, it will still work. This will not affect the storage capacity of the USB drive.
