• Yes, this will work. I actually purchased this product yesterday for the same exact system. The Dell Inspiron 3847 supports a max of 16gb with two slots. My machine is super fast after installing this RAM.

• Short answer: probably. Based on the base specifications I found when I googled "Dell Inspiron Desktop 3847 specifications", I found that it seems to support up to 16gb total RAM, in two slots (i.e.: 2x8gb), dual channel, 1600mhz, DDR3. This is assuming your operating system is 64-bit, it's just without knowing all the exact specifications of your system in its current state, it would be impossible to say for certain that you could install this RAM.
