The ball has nothing to do with the gameplay and no instructions are included with the set on how to play the card game. You are better off buying a Deck Pack that would give you some instructions and guaranteed playability, and then this set to expand on that deck with some possibly better cards. It is a two player card came, so you'd need at least two full decks. The set also comes with codes to play it online versus computers or other online players.

The Pokeball isn't involved as part of the game. It is just a fun collectable item that has 5x Booster Packs in it (10 cards in each pack).

This item is just a collection of booster packs, which are a way to add cards to your collection at random, in hopes of getting new and/or rare cards. Also, the figures and pokeball are just to collect. If someone wants to start playing the game they will need a deck and to find someone else with a deck.
