I sent an email asking Polk Audio this same question. The answer..."The patio 200 and Atrium 5 are the same, the grills are a little different but that is it. The patio 200s are limited release" which is why they cost less.

They said that the magnet for the 5" driver are different, that the cabinet of the 5's are thicker and that the 5's have better imaging. The design for both is sealed (you can see that there are no openings), but Polk falsely claims (on their web site and on the phone) that both the 200s and the 5s use Polk's Power Port Technology, which requires an opening. Both speakers weigh the same (4.6 pounds) so it's unlikely that they use different thickness cabinets. Also, the cabinets are injection molded so it is unlikely Polk would go to the expense of creating separate tooling for a nearly-identical speaker. I purchased both the Patio 200s and the Atruim 5s and while the 200s sound good for the price, they are not as clear nor well integrated as the 5s. When placed in the same location each speaker requires different equalization, also attesting to their differences. So in summary, these speakers are different and sound different.

Research also indicated that The Patio 200 was a "limited edition." From this information I deduced that Polk made the Patio 200 exclusively for Best Buy and used the Atrium 5 as the base platform then made it look different by changing the cover. This notion is supported in part by the fact that other retailers o not seem to have the Patio 200 but do have the Atrium 5.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.They are not exactly the same aside from just a different grill. The patio 200 has a few less features than the atrium 5. The patio 200 is also regular prices $199, where the atrium 5 is $299. Its not $100 less just because of a different grill. The patio 200 is a slightly lower quality. Still great speakers.
