The charger itself plugs into the Nintendo Switch dock via USB (the dock specifically has an extra USB for items like this under the panel where the HDMI and power cable go).

Each joycon only requires 5 volts @100mA and the power A Charging dock only requires 5 volts @ 500 mA to charge 2 pairs of joycons at the same time. Hope this helps.
