Theres multiple pieces to help different devices fit as ling as the casrnisnt to thick should be fine. Personally i like using it with no case just so it lays better in the rack.

If you have the case on you'll have to experiment with the bumpers with and without to see what works. It's easier with a phone with cases because of button placement. Because the iPad mini has the buttons on top for volume, power, and long press for siri...it requires more precise fit.

I leave one of the rubber adapters (included with controller) on the left side of the controller so that it keeps it from instantly maxing out the iPad volume. The fit isn’t perfect because of that adapter combined with the case, but I prefer to do that so it can’t press the volume as opposed to removing the case when I play. If you’re moving around a lot that may cause it to shift slightly, but so far I have had no problems after quite a bit of use.
