Hi Andrew - Thanks for choosing GE GSE25GSHECSS. Great question! The water filter part # MWF has superseded to MWFP. The canister and packaging will still show the old part # MWF, since this is familiar to our consumers and is what they look for when shopping for the water filter. The new filters have an upgraded filtration and improved consumer-focused packaging. New filter benefits: •Advanced Filtration (RPWF & new MWF). •Chlorine Taste & Odor (NSF standard 42). •Lead, Cysts, Asbestos, Select Pesticides and Select Chemicals (NSF standard 53).•Certified Structure (NSF standard 42). •Reduces 5 key pharmaceuticals: Ibuprofen, Atenolol, Fluoxetine, Progesterone and Trimethoprim. We hope this is helpful. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.MWFP is the new and better developed, improved MWF and will go by MWF name.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.MWFP is touted by GE as a one for one replacement filter for the older MWF filter but it is not. I'm not sure why GE wants to perpetuate this lie but the MWFP will absolutely not fit older refrigerators that use MWF filters. I know because after purchasing 5 MWFP filters I had to take them all back even though GE said they would fit. I called GE and they said the entire filter base must be changed to allow the insertion of MWFP filters.
