The Ring system has a delay and relies heavily on a strong, fast wifi signal; poor wifi will make the delay even worse and may even cause the Ring to lose signal. It's really frustrating, especially for a doorbell system. They have a wifi extender, but I've tried to add it and isn't very good. Your situation of 400 ft obstructed distance is far for even a decent router. Consider getting a mesh wifi system with one unit close to your door or look into a wired system. Ring has a wired version but it's expensive and is POE which most people don't have. In my opinion, pass on the Ring system. Great concept, but flawed design both in product and App; both unreliable, slow and a pain to set up. The delays and range are infuriating. The device appears to be water resistant but the lens needs to be free of water/debris to work properly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It all depends upon how good your wireless signal is. Take your cell phone, connected to wireless, and walk out to the front gate. If you lose your wi-fi signal or it still shows strong, you have your answer one way or the other.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I could tell you that my wifi router was about 20 feet from my door, and the app stated that I had poor reception. I had to move my router within 10 feet to get it to display as "good". I never got it to say "Excellent" reception.. I would say 400 feet will probably give you issues right off the bat (unless you get an extender). I ended up returning my Ring 2. Even with "good reception" the motion sensing feature never worked. Video quality was average, and the sound was choppy. In my opinion, this doorbell is not worth the price.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unfortunately, with my $400 router, plus wifi range extenders, plus Ring range extenders, I can barley get a connection 100 feet away from my router to my secondary detached garage. I tried using ring extenders first and that did nothing. I had to buy a few wifi range extenders on Amazon for about $20 each, and even then the connection is poor-good at best. That's about 100ft so idk about 400, maybe your WiFi is better though, who knows.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't think the doorbell is waterproof - I think they say it's "weather-resistant". You may need some sort of extender for your wi-fi to reach at 400 feet.
