Hi Maddie, Yes, the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) is powered by a rechargeable, built-in battery and does not require hardwiring. It features a revamped mounting setup that simplifies installation and removal when it comes time to recharge the device. Additionally, this doorbell can be hardwired to an existing doorbell system or transformer for continuous charging (8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz). Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is battery operated and must be recharged by taking it off the doorway and brought in and recharged with the included USB cable. The Ring App on your phone will notify you when it needs charging. Optionally the doorbell can be hooked to an existing doorbell power and remain charged from that power. Another option is to purchase a optional solar charger. The instructions included are pretty good and clear.
