It is battery operated and must be recharged by taking it off the doorway and brought in and recharged with the included USB cable. The Ring App on your phone will notify you when it needs charging. Optionally the doorbell can be hooked to an existing doorbell power and remain charged from that power. Another option is to purchase a optional solar charger. The instructions included are pretty good and clear.

Yes you can recharge it.i wired it directly to my existing door bell so I don't need to.

I don’t use battieries. It comes with a usb charger and charges very quickly. Great product
