  • QuestionCan I install it at the back of the mailbox instead of the door?

    Asked by Greg.

    • Answer Yes, that’s exactly what I did. I wasn’t comfortable with it on the door. I mounted it on the very back. It’s basically hidden and fully protected from the weather as it would be exposed to the weather upon opening the door. It works perfectly and activates every time upon opening the door. It senses the motion of the door opening.

  • QuestionWhat is the range on the device, like how far away can it work?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer It comes with a small paddle antenna that helps with distance. I’ve used one with no antenna for 20-25ft. With the it will probably get double that as the antenna connects with a cable and is mounted outside and facing towards your access points.

  • QuestionI am considering the purchase of the mailbox sensor. I already have a Ring extender on my system. Will my range extender work with the mailbox sensor or will I need to get the Bridge as well?

    Asked by GeorgeD.

    • Answer Hi GeorgeD. Great question! Yes, the Ring Mailbox Sensor is a part of the Ring Smart Lighting System and requires a Ring bridge in order to notify you of your mailbox being opened. The Ring Mailbox Sensor is a wireless, battery-powered motion sensor that tells you when your mailbox is opened. The Ring Mailbox Sensor works with your Ring app and sends notifications to a smart phone or any Alexa-enabled device when the device detects motion. With Linked Devices, the Ring Mailbox Sensor can be set to trigger Ring Doorbells and Cameras to begin recording, or Smart Lighting can be set to illuminate as soon as motion is detected at your mailbox. • QuestionI already have the doorbell as well as a flood light motion sensor. It says that I need a ring bridge base station to use this, can I not just add it as an additional device with my subscription?

    Asked by IZZI.

    • Answer Hi IZZI. Good question. The Ring Smart Mailbox Sensor requires a Ring Bridge in order for you to receive notifications. When connected to a Ring Bridge, you will receive a real-time notification in the Ring App or via a connected Alexa-enabled device whenever your Mailbox Sensor detects motion. • QuestionCan this sensor be used on something other than a mailbox, say a gate that I want to know if it is opened? Is this unit weatherproof?

    Asked by otheruses.

    • Answer Hi otheruses. Good question! Yes, you can use the included adhesive or drill bits to mount the Mailbox Sensor seamlessly into your mailbox, or use the included screws and mounting bracket to place it in any other metal enclosure like a shed to track motion around your home. Please note that the Ring Mailbox Sensor does not contain the Ring Bridge, which is necessary for all smart functionalities featured in the Ring app, such as mobile notifications, customizable settings, and the ability to connect to other compatible Ring and Alexa-enabled devices. • QuestionMy mailbox is about 425 feet from my house. Is there anyway I could get this to work with my system?

    Asked by Cole.

    • Answer Hi Cole. Thank you for asking! The Ring Mailbox Sensor is a wireless, battery-powered motion sensor that tells you when your mailbox is opened. The useful range between your Bridge and other Ring Smart Lighting products depends on the number of obstructions between them and the materials they’re made of. The RF signal has a greater range than wifi, but you may have to experiment with your devices to find an optimal position. • QuestionWhat makes the mailbox sensor different from any other motion sensor?

    Asked by DCSlim.

    • Answer I have several of RING’S motion detectors and the mail box motion detector & from what I can tell there’s not much difference. The size & the mounting hardware is the obvious difference.
