To my knowledge, the Ring 2 is just easier to detach if you need to charge the ring doorbell. If you have it hard wired, in my opinion, you do not need the Ring 2.

Primary difference is the Ring 2 is 1080p video (slightly higher definition) compared with the original Ring is 720p video. Other difference is a quick release battery (for easier recharging if you don't hard-wire it). Some think the added price is worth it - others don't.

I don't recall the differences other than Ring2 requires more or stronger WiFi than I had & I didn't want to change my internet plan. A co rep would be the best person to ask. They can ask questions & tailer the best RING for your home. I bought the Ring2 but I didn't have enough WiFi to handle it. I returned it & got the RING. per their instructions (cost less $). Co walked me through everything, but set up is simple. My route is far from front door. Co sent me an extender. It works fine now. Call them. Go for it!
