They CAN be hard-wired into any existing doorbell system or if you do not have any current door bell, you can use the units internal battery that lasts several months at a time. Its pretty flexible.

It is hardwired if you want it to be: it can be attached to your existing doorbell wiring or you can use the built in lithium battery to operate it. I recommend going with the hardwire option because you can set it and forget it. It is not hard to hardwire it: assuming you already have a hardwired door bell, it is simply a matter of connecting those two wires to the terminals on the Ring mounting plate. It then accomplishes two things: it still rings your normal house chime and it activates the Ring camera and alert on your Ring App, capturing video and providing a live feed to interact with the person at the front door. Very slick

The "Pro" version has to be hardwired but the model below the pro version does not. It is easy to install with no hard wiring necessary.
