An audio device connected to a controller with low battery may indeed suffer from drops in the audio connection , a decrease in overall volume or increased latency. Therefore it may help to change batteries if those currently in use are low on power. Otherwise, if the controller is rather old, its 3.5mm jack might also not work without fault any more, which could result in a loss in audio quality.
