The mortar lines will have no problem holding that small weight. You can use TAPCON screws or concrete anchors. Typical drywall anchors should work as long as you use the correct ones. If you have a 50 lb TV each anchor needs to hold at least 1/4 of that weight. Bigger is better. Drill a hole barely large enough to push the anchor into. Once you tighten the screws into it you should find that the anchor is all but impossible to pull out. Still don't feel comfortable? Put a little epoxy in the brick/mortar hole before you push the anchor into it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Actually, most times it is preferable to mount in the mortar rather than the brick. The mortar is strong and easily repaired without being noticeable if it is removed later.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If installed correctly, the mortar will be just fine for mounting the unit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think it should hold either way. 50# is not that much weight
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would not trust the mortar to hold it. I don't think that it will provide a solid enough foundation to support the TV and mount. If you can get some anchors into it the brick and mortar, I would feel a lot more comfortable about doing it.
