It works without a direct line. The remote can be pointed anywhere in the room and work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the remote works with radio frequency, I have never experienced any trouble even while walking throughout my back patio where the Roku is connected to my TV.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the same concern, but once I installed the device I realized I had nothing to worry about after all. I'm not sure of the tech that makes it work but I do know that one it's paired with the stick in my kids room I can use it any where in the room with no problems. In my living room it works better than the Apple TV remote (truly line of sight) so the Apple TV has been retired. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Works fine. Our stick is completely hidden by TV and have had no problems with remote function.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Remote works great
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can download the roku app on your phone and use it with your wifi and you won't need a remote :)

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Reception is fine. If your TV is attached ON the wall and the HDMI is NOT pointing to the side, then it might be a bit tricky. You may need to by a 7-15$ Rotating, HDMI-HDMI dongle, which you plug into the HDMI slot on the back of your TV. You can use the rotation of such dongle to orient its HDMI output to the side, up or down of your TV as needed. You then connect the Roku stick's HDMI connector to the rotating dongle and the stick's USB vonnector to an available USB on the TV. Most recent TVs have such USB slots. If you dont havr availlable slots , you can use a 110V to USB converter/trasformer. I used such left from a Iphone 3G and its small form factor was just what I needed for a bedroom TV(HDMI, but no USB) and attached directly to the wall,1/2 inch distance.
