I watched a VHS tape through my TV and it was fine but when I tried to capture the same video from the VCR to my PC, the reproduction was poor (even causing the video to change to B&W). Advice, if you do try the program and you're not satisfied, Best Buy will not refund since it is software. Good Luck

Q: QuestionWhat is this “user supplied video cable” you need? Would have been nice to know that all you needed to use the software is not included. As far as I can tell, with my VCR I will need to use the composite video connector, not the S-video connector.

• A:Answer I agree, they should have included the cable. But that said, the composite cable is not very expensive. I already had the cable that came with my VHS player, so I thought all players came with these cables. Also using the composite cable gives you a much longer reach than the adaptor/converter provides. Once you get it going, I believe you will be happy with your purchase.

Q: QuestionI want to get this to have digital copies of old VHS, however I'm not able to insert discs into my laptop. I will store them on my laptop, but downloading the software with the disc is going to be impossible for me. Is there a way to download online?

• A:Answer You get to view the movie as it is being copied - should also show without the copy. I noticed that when doing the 2nd or 3rd DVD to complete the movie - the sound and video did not align, but I played the DVD after completion and it was fine - the showing as copying was a bit off. Just a bit of a pain to catch the end of DVD and restart at that point to continue with next DVD.

• A:Answer Yes, ma’am. There is a combination VHS/DVD recorder that will transfer directly. They have not been sold in the US for almost a decade. You can find them for sale on EBay, Craigslist, or Amazon. Some are still new in box but very expensive.

• A:Answer It saves VHS videos as MPEGs. I believe those will play on video CD's. Ideally, you'll want a conversion program such as Magix Movie Studio Platinum to convert to MPEG-2 to save them to DVD.

• A:Answer You have to set up and convert all the files you want to burn to DVD before you actually burn it. You can start and stop unlimited number of times when recording. Its a three step process. Record , Convert files, then Burn.

• A:Answer There was not a hardcopy manual but the manual is online since I had to figure out how to record. I am using a VHS player and my laptop and can view what I am recording which enables me to only record the parts of the tape I want. I have not experimented with any other features like trim just doing the basic recording. It is very easy
