I found it to be very *convenient* since you don't need to worry about having extra countertop space to the left or right of the oven to allow the door to swing open. And, visit your store and try out a few microwave oven doors. This one is MUCH sturdier and doesn't have a problematic pushbutton -- which on most microwaves feels very flimsy and, if you read the reviews, most also suffer from sticking from time to time. No such problem with this one.

I have been looking for a new microwave with this feature ever since that one wore out. I bought a side door in between. This is so convenient for me. I had to elevate the side door one so it could clear the sink - which meant no dishes could be in the sink. I was so happy to find this. The drop door seems to take less counter space than a side swinging door.
