Previous answer is wrong. California Prop. 65 does not cover microwaves. Warning has to be due to a chemical used in the device..
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Microwaves don’t cause cancer. However Proposition 65 is so broad that many things are listed as carcinogenic by Prop 65 despite having almost no evidence to show increased cancer risk. Microwaves are listed by the WHO as a class 2b carcinogen, meaning there is LIMITED evidence in humans and INSUFFICIENT evidence is animal experiments. Thus they can’t determine if it is carcinogenic or not. Electromagnetic radiation can cause cancer, but it must be powerful enough to ionize molecules and be powerful enough to die substantial damage to the body. Microwaves are not powerful enough to ionize molecules, and the amount of radiation emitted into the surrounding room is roughly 1,000 times less than the radiation from the sun on a sunny day. In conclusion: Microwaves are far less likely to cause cancer than going outside, so don’t worry about the prop 65 warning.
