Yes, through the arc HDMI you can use your normal remote

DEPENDS on the make of your TV. In the owners manual is list compatible makes of tv's that if you hold a certain button on the bar remote for 5 seconds you will see TV sound on appear on the bar, this gives you the ability to control the volume with your existing remote and won't have to use the supplied remote of the bar. To turn this off, just hold the same button on the bar remote for 5 seconds to deactivate. Pretty easy and is in the owners manual on how this is done. Those folks that answered NO to this above may not have read this, OR may not have a compatible tv. Here is what is says. Page 12 - Controlling the Soundbar using Your TV Remote Control Press and hold the SOUND button for more than 5 seconds while the soundbar is turned on. ON TV REMOTE appears on the soundbar display Make sure your tv is set for external speakers. Supporting TV manufacturers. VIZIO LG Sony SHarp Philips Panasonic Toshiba Grundig RCA- Also depends on the TV's remote. Hope this helped!

If you have a newer Samsung tv (purchased ours in fall 2016) the tv remote will control the sound bar once appropriately paired. In the tv settings, you go to audio settings and select Bluetooth sound bar to pair and then the tv knows there is a compatible sound bar and all volume goes through the speaker. No annoying adjustment or timing delay between tv and speakers. Really easy and sounds great.

I just got mine. The item comes with a remote. Once you connect it to your tv, the only way to control the volume is with the remote that came with the item.
