• You DO NOT NEED A CABLE BOX; you can connect the coax cable straight into the back. It has a QAM digital tuner built in so you don't need a cable box, but you won't get the HD effect. only the basic 480 image.

• If you cable company hasn't jammed cable boxes down your throat for every TV you own, yes, it will scan all the channels and give you 50 or so channels, some in HD.

• You do not need a cable box. You can install cable right to connection at back of TV. Worked great when we hooked it up this way for my mother.
