It is called "smart" because you can load an app in your cell phone or computer that will communicate with the refrigerator. You can set temperature thermostats for freezer or refrigerator. It will also message you if the door is ajar. When the error is corrected, it will message that data to your cell phone. You can activate or disable any or all of the ice makers from this app.
