An IR extender cable is an Infra-Red Eye Extension to instead of pointing the remote control directly at the TV, you can point the remote directly toward the IR Eye sensor instead, giving you a much greater range and more versatility with the remote controller features. The included IR extension cable appears to be approximately 6' in length. IE... A good example would be your LED TV is located inside an entertainment center or cabinet that has glass doors which are closed, or a restaurant or bar that would mount the TV's up high to be seen by everyone, you could move the IR Extension Eye anywhere you want, giving you full control of the TV's remote control features without obstructions. It's a cord that you plug One end into your TV and position the other end(which received signals from the remote control) somewhere in the open away from obstacles that might be blocking the IR signal from your remote control to the TV so you don't look like you're in a sword fight every time you want to change the channel. infrared remotes require a line of sight to function. RF remotes are far superior as their signals can travel through walls and other objects :-)

It's the cord with the small round box at the end that came with your tv. If you connect the cord to your tv and place the small round box in front of the ir panel of your cable box/satellite tv receiver, home theater etc it will allow you to use your samsung remote as a universal remote. Although you'll have to configure it through your tv first (turn your tv on, click menu on your remote, then scroll down and click system, then click universal remote setup). From there It'll guide you through.

The IR cable is suppose to allow you to use the manufacturer's remote to override a cable box. I'm mostly use the cable remote, they both work fine.
