• Lorraine, there are no built-in speakers to output sound, the terminology means it can pass the HDMI audio through to external speakers that you hook up via the stereo jack on the rear of the monitor. I've not tested these to see how they sound, but it'll be dependent on the speakers you connect since it's a straight passthrough of the audio signal. Hope this helps.
